Jordin Sparks – This Is My Now
Jordin Brianna Sparks (born on December 22, 1989 in Staten Island, New York) is an American singer. On May 23, 2007, she was declared the winner of the sixth season of the reality television show American Idol. At 17, this makes her the youngest winner in American Idol history. In addition, she is the only winner who is from the Southwest, rather than the American South.
“This Is My Now” is a song written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne. The top two finalists of the sixth season of American Idol (Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks) sang it during the May 22-May 23, 2007 finale shows. It was chosen over thousands of other entries in a songwriting contest for fan-written songs to be sung on the show. However, despite the new origins its slow tempo and inspirational theme is typical of contracted American Idol “winner single” material from prior years.
Lewis sang it first during the May 22 show and received only middling reviews from the judges, because the song was not Lewis’s style of music. Sparks received better feedback and Simon Cowell stated that she “wiped the floor” with Lewis’s rendition. Sparks reprised “This Is My Now” after winning the competition on the May 23 show.
